一说出自姬姓。据《姓氏考略》，周宣王时郑国公子翩受封于蔚邑，世称蔚翩，其后代便以蔚为氏。[3]

一说以地名为氏。南北朝时北周宣帝设置蔚州，当地人遂以地名为姓。[1]

郡望堂号[edit]

郡望为琅邪郡，秦代设置，在今山东东南部。堂号为时思堂。[1]
