一说邰姓源出姜姓。相传后稷的母族称为有邰氏，尧将后稷封于邰，其后人以邰为姓；另有说法认为邰姓出自姬姓。[2]
另一说邰姓出自鲜卑族的大利稽氏。北魏时大利稽一族入居中原，改为邰氏。郑樵《通志·氏族略》有云：「大利稽（三字姓）之为邰。」[3]
